Our CEO together with a Board of Trustees are the heart and soul of our organisation, guiding us with their expertise, passion, and dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of young people in our community.
Joan Simms is founder and CEO of Uptown Youth Services. She has been an integral part of Uptown for over 20 years, leading the organisation with unwavering dedication and a deep commitment to empowering young people. Joan brings broad experience and knowledge: operational and strategic management and service delivery. She has extensive local government and Voluntary/Third sector experience as an officer, face-to-face youth work and Lead Accreditation Manager.
Throughout her long tenure, Joan has focused on mentoring, providing positive role models, and creating a safe space for young people to thrive. Joan is passionate that young people have access to opportunities which maximise their life chances irrespective of their background; Joan’s ability to connect with young people and their families has made her a trusted figure in the community. She works tirelessly to ensure that Uptown provides a supportive and inspiring environment where young people can develop their social skills, stay in school, and make better life choices. Joan’s dedication to the cause is truly inspiring, and her long service has left a lasting impact on the lives of countless young people.
As Chair of Trustees Lisa brings a wealth of experience in financial planning and a deep commitment to youth empowerment. She has been instrumental in steering Uptown Youth Services towards achieving its mission of providing support and opportunities to young people.
Clare Bradley has been a trustee at Uptown Youth Services since 2017. With a strong background in the charity sector and a commitment to community development, Clare brings helpful insights to our organisation.
Anna is an experienced management consultant in the area of sustainability. She is passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and has served on several corporate and government advisory boards, supporting leadership in driving DEI performance with a particular focus on gender equality and social mobility. A Merton resident herself, she is committed towards Uptown Youth Services succeeding in its mission of providing support and opportunities to young people in the borough.
Marie Rhys-Evans is a dedicated and experienced professional who brings a wealth of knowledge to Uptown Youth Services. As a trustee, Marie plays a crucial role in guiding the organisation towards achieving its mission of empowering young people and building brighter futures. With a background in financial services and a passion for community development, Marie is committed to ensuring that Uptown Youth Services continues to provide valuable support and opportunities.
Leslie is a law student with a deep passion for helping young people reach their potential. From 13 to 16, Leslie attended Uptown youth club, building a strong, personal connection to the people and environment there. At 16, Leslie stepped into a new role as a trainee youth worker at the same club, working there until the age of 18. Those years provided valuable hands-on experience, and a real understanding of the challenges young people face, as well as the hopes and dreams they hold for the future.
